The Tonga Leitis Association is a Civil Society Organization that is specifically cater for people with gender diverse and non-binary people in Tonga. In terms of unemployment, a survey conducted in 2020 within TLA members indicated that young adults (ranging from 21 – 30 years old) have dropped out of school, looking for a job, or just staying home. To mitigate the issue of unemployment, we want to contribute by strengthening community-based Life Skills and creativeness to empower pathway to successful and influential entrepreneurs. The intention is to utilize our in-house experts and locally available resources to conduct face-to-face training of community members (irrespective of sex, race, age, or background) on basic life skills area relating to flower arrangements, makeup tutorials, and handicrafts.
TLA received a fund from the Australia Aid to support its activities throughout 2024 – 2025 in supporting TLA Life Skills Training that is scheduled to implement in the main island and also the outer islands. This project will be focusing on the SOGIESC community in Tonga, with the intention to improve skills and experiences of core team in providing its services to key population. We target to upgrade our programs for the youth including those in schools and unemployed individuals seeking for opportunities to become independent.
The training will be based on two areas (Lifeskills and GBV Awareness)

Methodology and Approach
The training employs several learning and training methodologies including group work/practice sessions, technical exercises, sharing of best practices, presentations, case studies using real life examples from the members of TLA. There will be pre-post-tests to measure the level of understanding of the participants.
A total of 15 trainings are expected to be completed within the duration of the project-10 in Tongatapu, 1 in Eua, 2 in Haapai and 2 in Vavau. The two facilitators will work closely with Project Assistant and Support Officers in the outer islands in the coordination and facilitation of life skills training. Feedback will be collected after each training and facilitators will report back to TLA team after each training. A total of 20 - 40 participants expected to attend each session.
