Today, 11th of November 2025, two members of the Tonga Leitis Association (TLA) attended the TASP Capacity Development Training, hosted at the Ma’a Fafine mo e Famili Office in Tofoa. This training brought together participants to strengthen their understanding of key safeguarding frameworks and storytelling techniques essential for effective program implementation and communication.
During the session, participants explored the safeguarding umbrella under the Code of Business Ethics and Conduct Policy for recipients. The training emphasized the importance of upholding high ethical standards and accountability in all areas of operation. Discussions also focused on social safeguarding policies, particularly around child protection and PSEAH (Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment), highlighting how organizations can work to avoid and minimize potential negative impacts of projects and programs.
Participants were reminded of the importance of a shared responsibility in ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all, reinforced by principles of: Zero tolerance of breach, Zero tolerance of inaction, Survivor-centered approaches & Confidentiality management.
In addition to safeguarding, the training also covered storytelling techniques, focusing on the key elements of crafting strong, evidence-based stories. This component encouraged participants to use storytelling as a powerful tool for advocacy, learning, and impact sharing, ensuring that voices from the community are heard with integrity and authenticity.
The Tonga Leitis Association extends its appreciation to the Australia in Tonga and Ma’a Fafine mo e Famili for hosting this valuable training and looks forward to applying the lessons learned to strengthen our organization’s safeguarding practices and storytelling efforts.
Together, we continue to promote accountability, protection, and empowerment across all levels of our work.
